Finding Hygge
The Vision
Finding Hygge, where a safe space is the foundation of the therapeutic alliance. Through art psychotherapy workshops and one-to-one sessions, the emphasis is on using creativity, to explore a deepened connection with oneself, either to navigate difficult emotions, or to enhance a sense of well-being. The approach integrates psychodynamic, somatic/sensorimotor, and attachment theories, to embrace opportunity for healing.

This outlook has culminated with a commitment to ongoing professional development and having witnessed personal experiences and journeys, with collaborations with the NHS & Manchester Art Gallery (perinatal mums), Various other galleries in the North West, Childrens residential care, Hospice, Education, Health clinics, Domestic violence, and in Mental health settings. What Can I Expect?
This depends on the setting, the individual, or group objectives. Workshops are often themed and are generally aimed at promoting emotional well-being. No art making experience is neccessary and activity can be facilitated as little or as much as required.
Beginning with a process leading to what may have visual similarities, yet with profoundly different meaning and revelations to each person. An Example of this is the 'Walking in my shoes' workshop; provided with a plethora of mixed media, a shoe sculpture is created whilst bearing your story in mind. This can be shared informally with group members, or antendees may wish to reflect privately. You take home a talking piece, even if they might be difficult to wear again. Metaphorically speaking, this could be a relief. There are many more themes and methods to work with, suitable for everyone.

One to One sessions are formulated and adjusted according to the individual and their reasons for attending therapy. People who experience anxiety, depression, trauma, developmental trauma, complex trauma, or loss and bereavement - are given a space to explore and choose from; paint, pencil, pastels, clay, collage materials, writing journals, textiles, and botanicals. Creative expression can be a gateway for you to access the unconcious without words, of which you may then choose to discuss. The session can include considered guided visualation, breathing exercises, and other somatic practices.
